In-N-Out's claim to fame is its dedication to freshness. You won't ever find a wilted lettuce leaf, mushy tomato or burnt patty in an In-N-Out burger. The potatoes are even delivered straight from the farm and are cut in the store. The meat is never frozen and the burger is always delicious. In-N-Out abides by the philosophy that less is more. A burger doesn't need to be fancy and dressed up with novelties—it just needs to be a burger. BuzzFeed pitted the two burgers head to head, and this is what one of the reviewers had to say about In-N-Out:

In-N-Out is the stuff of dreams, and when I took a bite, it was better than I remembered. I mean, I KNEW it was good, but eating its crispy bun and fresh lettuce and onion concoction after tasting Shake Shack’s saltiness really reaffirmed my love. I’ll never betray In-N-Out like that again. I would eat it every day, but my doctor doesn’t want me to.
