Oatmeal raisin cookies get a lot of hate—it's an unavoidable truth. But for some cookie-lovers, oatmeal raisin is the hill they choose to die on. As one person puts it on Reddit:

According to this camp, a solid oatmeal raisin cookie simply tastes like home.

But fans argue that oatmeal raisin cookies provide a texture unlike any other. Their unique combination creates a soft pillow of goodness that is somehow both chewy and moist at the same time. The raisins and cinnamon also provide just a hint of sweetness that does not overpower the cookie itself, making this the kind of dessert that leaves you feeling energized, rather than drained.

If you don’t like oatmeal raisin, you obviously haven’t had a nice one. It’s everything a cookie should be, sweet, exciting, and with a bit of nostalgia for granny’s cookies. 

And according to Quora, oatmeal cookies are a delicate balance—their perfection comes down to the bake:

There has to be cinnamon, and perhaps some other sweet spice, to showcase the oatmeal, and the cookie must not be cooked until crispy (because if you manage that, you're overcooking the oatmeal, wrecking texture in both it and the raisins. Oatmeal cookies are supposed to be chewy.)

But there's nothing worse than being faked out by an oatmeal raisin cookie. All it takes is one bite into what looks like a perfectly wholesome chocolate chip cookie for you to lose your trust in oatmeal cookies of all kinds. Once you discover a mouthful of mushy raisins instead of rich chocolate, there is no going back.

Put simply, there's a reason oatmeal raisin are the last to go at the bake sale; no one wants these bland and lumpy disks. They are dissatisfying at best and do not deserve to be included in the cookie family.
